Perrie Edwards confirms Zayn Malik DID end their engagement

07:51

Perrie Edwards has sensationally confirmed that her former fiancée Zayn Malik did end their engagement.

In her explosive chapter in Little Mix's new book Our World, the singer takes aim at the way her ex handled the break-up in 2015, branding it the 'worst time' of her life.

In a leaked passage from the tome, she writes: 'It was horrible, the worst time in my life. A four-year relationship, two year engagement ended by a simple text message. Just like that.

'Even though things in my career were going really well, it was incredibly difficult for me.' The excerpt quickly made its way around social media, with Perrie trending as her fans rallied around her to offer words of support.

One fan wrote: 'I'm glad she isn't with him anymore, everything she said is shocking.' Another added: 'so zayn ended zerrie with a text, ended zouis with a tweet and ended ot5 with a Facebook post, legendary. #PerrieExposedZaynParty'

What's the truth? The claims go against Zayn's insistence last year that rumours he had split from Perrie over text were false. Pictured above with new girlriend, Gigi Hadid

The claims go against Zayn's insistence last year that rumours he had split from Perrie over text were false. He explained to Fade magazine last year: ‘If you could word it exactly this way, I’d be very appreciative. I have more respect for Perrie than to end anything over text message. ‘I love her a lot, and I always will, and I would never end our relationship over four years like that.

‘She knows that, I know that, and the public should know that as well. I don’t want to explain why or what I did, I just want the public to know I didn’t do that.'

The quotes emerged as Perrie and her bandmates took to the stage on The X Factor on Sunday evening to perform their aptly named new track, Shout Out To My Ex.
Just hours after the performance, Shout Out To My Ex is the fastest single to reach No.1 on UK iTunes since Adele's Hello.

The morning after on Capital Breakfast with Dave Berry, George and Lilah, Perrie explained that writing the song and the forthcoming album had been 'therapeutic.'
'I think the whole album has been like that for us. I feel like we’ve all had therapy on this album. We wrote about everything possible and we’ve been so honest and open about everything,' she explained.

Later on Nick Grimshaw's Radio 1 show, Perrie said of the gossip surrounding their new song: 'I mean, we did expect it, didn't we? The song speaks for itself.'

'Who doesn't relate to this song? It relates to everyone. Jes always says it's like a happy, heartbreak song. It makes you feel amazing and that's what it's all about really,' she added.

Perrie has now moved on from Zayn with Our Girl star Luke Pasqualino.

Speaking to MailOnline, she explained: 'It's very early days. We're just seeing how things go really. We've been on a few fun dates, but that's all there is to it for now.'
