After Kim came under fire for posting a nude selfie on Instagram, Alex jumped to her defense Tweeting , "No one was body shaming Justin Bieber when he posted his nude guitar photo so why Kim Kardashian?" Having only recently been the subject of a media backlash herself for showing her breast reduction scars while wearing a revealing dress at the SAG Awards, this is a subject very close to her heart.

Ariel feels strongly about the double standards applied to women in the entertainment industry and the criticism that they are constantly faced with, while men seem to be able to get away with so much more. Ariel even opted for breast reduction surgery after discovering that some in the industry were keen to focus on her curvy figure instead of her acting ability. After the SAG Award controversy Ariel told ET, "If I didn't think about [the scars] myself, clearly I'm not ashamed of them. I don't know why anybody would be. They're not going away."

Unfortunately, Ariel came under attack from Justin Bieber fans for mentioning him in her Tweet supporting Kim, with some Beliebers pointing out that the nude photo of Justin had been leaked and that he hadn't actually posted it himself. Ariel was unrepentant and stated, "I think everyone, men and women, should have the right to choose what they do with their bodies - and not be criticized."
